Business of EP: EP Business 101: Winning the EP Practice Superbowl

This session will focus on important business fundamentals, starting with a presentation on how programs can incorporate allied professionals into their systems to build a foundation for a highly functioning EP team. Since effective reimbursement for EP procedures is becoming increasingly problematic, this session will address ongoing changes and advise clinicians and institutions how to prepare for success in the evolving reimbursement landscape. A review of effective negotiating tactics to optimize success within one’s institution will be discussed by a lawyer with significant experience in this arena.

This one-hour session focuses on the emerging trend of ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) and private equity in EP practice. Although device implants have been performed in ASCs, ablations are currently not approved. This session will review topics related to a) ASCs - how to start one, regulations, pitfalls, b) developing collaborative relationships, c) debating what can or cannot be done in an EP ASC. The session also features a discussion on the emerging role of private equity in EP practices, and the pros and cons of that approach.
